The species are listed in alphabetical order of their Latin names.  The descriptions include the common name/s and vernacular names (names in other languages) for the species that we know of.  If you are not sure of the Latin name of the species you are looking for, try the search box with the name you have.  You can also browse the whole list with the navigation buttons on the bottom of each page.

The maximum height and diameter of culms of mature plants grown in optimum conditions, given in metric.

The minimum temperature figure in Celsius is a guide to the temperature at which damage can occur to above ground parts of the plant due to cold if known. Mature clumps can often tolerate slightly colder conditions.

The comments include notes on the origin, uses, growth habits and other interesting facts.
